CHAPTER 18
18. Local and international websites
In 30%-40% of searches, users are looking for information specific to the area they live in, or
the area they want to go to. Examples include searches for hotels, restaurants, beauty salons
or a local contractor. Google has special algorithms that ensure that you get local results if your
search also focuses on the place where you are. Google uses, among other things, login data
when you are logged in to Google. They also use the IP address of your computer to determi-
ne where you are.
18.1 Google My Business
Google helps companies that work locally by offering them the opportunity to provide additi-
onal information to Google. This information is then used to better inform visitors.
In order to provide Google with this additional information, the company must create a "com-
pany page". You can create a business page by going to https://www.google.com/intl/nl_nl/
busi- ness/. After you have signed up, choose the business type.
Choose the type of business.
You have a choice of three types of companies:
Shop window: Choose this if your company operates from a fixed address.
Service area: You provide services in a certain radius around your company.
Brand: This is what you choose if you are not tied to a location.
