6. The results page in the search engine
The results page is the page you see first after entering a search term in the search bar. In
Google terms, the results page is called the SERP; Search Engine Results Page. Almost all web-
site owners want to be on the first position of the SERP page. The expression "high in Google"
refers to obtaining the first position.
6.1 The results page
Let's take a closer look at the results page. In the following image we see the search results for
the keyword "swimwear men".
Organic and non-organic results
The results page has two types of results. The "organic results" and the "non-organic results".
We will discuss both.
Organic results: The highest position in Google
At 1 we see the "organic results". We also call these the "natural results" or "search results" and
they are the result of the Google algorithms and SEO (Search Engine optimization). When we
talk about "ranking", we are talking about these results. The link to Decathlon has the number
one position in the ranking. It is the "highest position" in Google. Please note that the results
shown are web pages and not complete websites. Each web page has its own ranking based
on the keywords on that page. One web page can therefore be ranked based on several key-
words. All these keywords also have their own search volume, the number of times per month
that this keyword is entered into the search engine. We will discuss this later.
