4. The mission of Google
Many companies have a "Mission". A mission statement is a description of what a company
wants to achieve. This mission or driving force is the yardstick by which all activities and efforts
must be measured. It is the driving force of the organization. Google also has a mission and this
mission finds its origin in the PageRank concept. This concept was all about presenting web
pages on the results page, based on the quality of the web page. Another aspect of this con-
cept is that the user of the search engine is put first.
Google expresses this by saying:
"The search results should be maximally relevant and important, in relation to the search
query".
The definition of "relevant" in the Google world: A maximum match between the search word
and the page to be presented.
The definition of "important" in the Google world: The page has a good "reputation" and is
popular. Many links point to a popular page.
In the definition of "important" we see a return to the original PageRank concept from 1998:
The number of links pointing to a page. In 2019, PageRank still has a role to play. However,
PageRank is now one of many ways to measure the quality of a web page.
Measuring the quality of a web page.
If the search engine thinks that your webpage is maximally relevant and important for the search,
you will get position 1 in the natural search results. There will be many clicks on your link and
you can expect many visitors. But how do you make sure that your webpage is relevant and
important? You need to meet a lot of requirements before Google thinks your page deserves
the number 1 position. These requirements can be divided into two main groups:
1. Yourweb page must be of "high quality".
(Google refers to" “High Quality Pages”).
2. The search engine should be enabled to measure this quality .

SEO
One of the most important concepts in online marketing is "Search Engine Optimization". The
English term for this is Search Engine Optimization, abbreviated to SEO. Freely translated, this
means that you set up your web page in such a way that it can be properly indexed by the search
engine, thus determining its quality. At the same time you have to make sure that the page is
of high quality in order to get a good ranking position.
